** Training
for this class takes place at the Dojo for the Japan Karate Association
North Iowa located on the second floor at #9 Second Street Northwest—Right
next door to the Elks club. Typically a neon sign saying “JKA Karate”
will be on. Enter and go up the flight of steps. Before you
enter the training hall, please remove your shoes.
We
decided to meet at this location for a number of reasons:
-
Because
of the special equipment needs for this course. We have tatami-style
mats on the floor. We also have equipment that would prove to cumbersome
to transport.
-
The space
is hygienic; in the past when we’ve used a gymnasium, we’ve had to contend
with gobs of spit and crud on the floor. Here we can keep the floor
clean and not have to worry about stepping in a basketball player’s saliva.
-
We don’t
have to worry about the curious-yet-generally-disinterested passer-by gawking
at us.
