Softball team young with 17 freshmen, 2 returnersKyla Cook As a year round sport, the Trojan softball team has already experienced some college play. Spring season officially started Monday, January 19. “We have a really young team,” head coach Tyler Sisco said about his team of 17 freshmen and two returners in Allyson Gross and Courtney Hanson. Sisco said that defensively his team is more athletic than previous teams and offensively more balanced. He said they are athletic enough that he expects the team to be able to steal bases. Sisco has four pitchers on this year’s squad including Jayna Blome, Breanna Giordana, Danielle Hrubetz and Laci Pustina. Sisco said he expects each to throw down in Florida during the team’s spring break trip. “When they’re this young, it’s hard to have cut-and-dry expectations,” Sisco said. But he said the big goal heading into the season is to win the Regional Tournament and finish in the top half of the conference. The team was scheduled to open its season on February 28 at Cloud Community College in Kansas as a double header. |
