Dorm eatery renovations to continue

Students living in the dorms may have noticed a few changes while dining in the eatery, such as increased seating in the dining areas by removing windows and new, brighter carpet.

According to Tony Pappas, Facilities Management director, these minor alterations are part of a long-term renovation plan.

“With our current budget, we can only make so many changes,” Pappas said. “So every year, we continue to chip away on it.”

This financial challenge does not slow development.“I have many ideas for upgrading the eatery,” Pappas said.

According to Pappas, a few of these ideas include the installation of bistro chairs and tables, and pendant lights.“Bistro chairs and tables with overhanging pendent lights seem to be the new trend in today’s restaurants,” Pappas said. “We think the addition of the bistro chairs and tables should give the eatery more of an inviting restaurant feel.”

According to Pappas, the carpet covering the floors of the dining areas needed replacing.

“The carpet was beginning to show the signs of wear and tear,” Pappas said. “So we swapped out the old vinyl carpet for the new carpet tiles which can be easily replaced and maintained.”

Pappas said students could expect more changes in the eatery to occur throughout the year.

“We’ve just gotten approval for a beverage upgrade in May,” Pappas said. “And the bistro chairs and tables will be put in over the summer.”
