Foods can impact health, mood and productivity

It’s tough to think creatively and stay focused when you are hungry. You could go drink some coffee to keep you awake and thinking, but wouldn’t you get sidetracked? Maybe eat a burger, but wouldn’t that make you tired?

If you think about it, there isn’t a whole lot of food to keep our minds and bodies going without getting sluggish and out of shape. So what exactly are some foods that can help us work and at the same time be healthy for us?

I think back to the days before college of living with mom and dad. Every morning I had breakfast made for me. Of course the obvious choice for the morning would be eggs.

A fried egg relieves blood pressure and has enough energy to last until the afternoon. A warm breakfast also keeps the mind alert for the rest of the day.

What about during a class? Do you have a major test coming up? Try chewing some gum, it doesn’t really matter which kind as long as it didn’t cost you more than one dollar. Chewing gum is a great stress reliever when we become overwhelmed with work, especially in school situations.

Once in a while a group of friends and I will get together and play N64. Usually we either order in or make spaghetti, one of the easiest and cheapest meals to make.

We add a bit of garlic into the sauce after I found research showed that it releases serotonin, a chemical in the body that makes you feel relaxed.

Finally, we get to that part where we have to write an essay or make something creative by tomorrow.

It turns out that dark chocolate is the best snack choice when doing something that involves art or writing. It reduces blood pressure, lowers cholesterol and increases the blood flow to the brain.

Notice that most of these simple foods are not as fattening as eating a package of Oreos. Know what your options are and make the right choice that will reflect your mood and progress.
